Head of Delivery

Location: Bristol, UK with some travel to South Coast

Security Clearance: Must be eligible for SC clearance


My Client is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and strategic Head of Delivery to lead the project delivery function and help shape the future of our cutting-edge defence solutions. Reporting directly to the Business Unit Director, you'll play a pivotal role in driving programme success, shaping delivery strategy, and leading a high-performing team in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.


About the Role

As Head of Delivery, you will take full ownership of the planning and execution of projects within your Business Unit. You will lead and motivate a team of project delivery professionals to ensure effective delivery, governance, and continuous improvement, aligned with company values and strategic objectives.

This role is ideal for a delivery leader who thrives in complex programme environments, brings commercial acumen and resilience, and is passionate about coaching teams to deliver success at scale.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement BU-wide delivery strategy, planning, and resource management frameworks
  • Oversee multiple project workstreams, managing interdependencies and risk
  • Provide leadership to the Project Delivery team—setting direction, mentoring, and driving excellence
  • Maintain robust delivery schedules, forecasts, and performance metrics
  • Own budget control and reporting, working with stakeholders to align cost, scope, and time
  • Lead internal and external stakeholder engagement—including customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams
  • Support continuous improvement and innovation across delivery processes and systems


What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven leadership experience in complex project or programme delivery
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to develop and execute delivery roadmaps
  • Strong financial and commercial understanding of project delivery (budgeting, forecasting, risk)
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience managing integrated schedules, resources, and project controls across a portfolio
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, compliance, and customer focus
  • Eligible for SC clearance (current clearance is an advantage)
  • Defence Industry experience


Desirable

  • Familiarity with regulated environments and accredited standards (ISO, PMO governance etc.)
