Role Overview:

You’ll be responsible for crafting visually exceptional, compelling lighting setups in Unreal Engine 5 that heighten mood, tension, and immersion. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of lighting principles, a cinematic eye, and experience working on visually ambitious games.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and implement high-quality lighting in UE5 for indoor and outdoor environments across multiple UK-inspired biomes.

  • Collaborate with art direction to establish and maintain consistent mood and visual storytelling.
  • Optimize lighting for performance across platforms without compromising visual quality.
  • Work closely with environment and level artists to ensure scenes are compositionally strong.
  • Develop and maintain lighting pipelines and best practices for the team.

Must-Have Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience lighting real-time environments in Unreal Engine 5, ideally in a shipped game or high-fidelity demo.
  • Understanding of fog, volumetrics, and visual effects integration.
  • Deep understanding of UE5’s lighting systems including Lumen, Lightmass, post-process volumes, and exposure.
  • Strong grasp of color theory, contrast, and atmosphere in storytelling.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate clearly within a remote team structure.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing lighting work in games or real-time environments.

Nice-to-Haves (but not required):

  • Experience working on horror, narrative-driven, or atmosphere-heavy games.
  • Familiarity with environment composition and level art fundamentals.
  • Experience with cinematics or sequencer lighting in Unreal.
  • Knowledge of photogrammetry pipelines and how lighting interacts with scan-based assets.

Working Hours:

This is a fully remote position, but candidates must be available to collaborate during UK business hours (BST).
