Job description

Job Title: NPD Bread Technologist

Location: Northamptonshire (with UK travel required)

Reports to: Bread Development Manager

Career Progression: Technical Field Manager in 2–4 years

Salary: £29,000 - £35,000

*You must be able to drive and have your own car*

Are you passionate about baking innovation and keen to turn that into a rewarding technical career? We are looking for an ambitious and proactive NPD Bread Technologist to join our industry-leading team in delivering high-quality, customer-focused bakery solutions.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work hands-on with new product development in the bread category and build the foundation for a long-term technical career—progressing to a Technical Field Manager role supporting key customers within 2–4 years.

What You’ll Do:

In the first phase, you will:

  • Carry out accurate and repeatable test bakes for internal projects and customer requests.
  • Support customer presentations by producing high-quality product samples and eventually leading sessions.
  • Analyse development trials, prepare concise reports, and communicate outcomes clearly to internal teams and customers.
  • Upload and manage documentation (e.g., specifications, trial data) into the NPD system.
  • Collaborate with Finance to track ingredient and product development costs.
  • Learn ingredient functionality and formulation through hands-on project ownership.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure developments are delivered on time and to standard.
  • Support process development projects in parallel with NPD.

Your Progression Path:

As you grow into the Technical Field Manager role, you will:

  • Lead bakery technology deployments for new and existing strategic customers.
  • Build deep technical relationships with key accounts, offering bakery insight and innovation support.
  • Present and demonstrate new product concepts to customers, both virtually and on-site.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D teams and business unit managers to drive strategic innovation.
  • Support new business development while aligning technical and commercial targets.
  • Manage customer project pipelines transparently, ensuring visibility across teams.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A passion for baking and a curiosity for scientific food development.
  • A hands-on, proactive mindset with the ability to take initiative and own projects.
  • Strong communication skills—for reporting, customer interaction, and team collaboration.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites and other company locations.
  • A drive to grow into a future leadership role within our technical team.

What’s in It for You?

  • Real career development in a thriving international company.
  • Exposure to high-profile bakery projects and customers.
  • Access to internal training and development opportunities.
  • Work with some of the industry’s leading bakery technologists.
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment.
