Job description

Financial Modeller – Commercial Team

Location: Central London (Hybrid: 3 days in office, 2 days remote)

Type: Full-time, Permanent

We are representing a fast‑growing, venture‑capital‑backed battery energy storage systems (BESS) company, on a mission to accelerate the transition to a low‑carbon energy future. Their projects across the UK provide grid stability, peak‑shaving and renewable integration, delivering essential services to utilities, generators and large commercial offtakers. As they scale, they are looking for an experienced Financial Modeller to join their Commercial team and drive critical investment and project‑valuation workstreams.

About the Role

As the Financial Modeller, you’ll own and develop their end‑to‑end financial models for new and existing BESS projects. Reporting to the Head of Commercial, you’ll partner with Origination, Engineering, Legal and Fundraising to:

  • Build Investment Models – From first principles, design LCOE and IRR‑driven Excel models for utility‑scale and behind‑the‑meter battery assets.
  • Stress‑Test Scenarios – Model revenue stacking (frequency response, FRR, peaking, capacity markets), price volatility and regulatory sensitivities.
  • Due Diligence & Valuation – Integrate technical inputs into robust NPV and DCF analyses for fundraising and M&A.
  • Commercial Analysis – Produce mid‑ and long‑term P&L forecasts, sensitivity tables and KPI dashboards to support decision‑making.
  • Continuous Improvement – Automate repetitive tasks via VBA or Python, enforce model integrity with version control, and codify best practices.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven BESS Modelling Expertise – Minimum 3 years’ hands‑on experience building financial models specifically for battery storage projects.
  • Advanced Excel Skills – Expert‑level proficiency, including VBA (macros, automation) and data validation techniques.
  • Financial Acumen – Strong grasp of project finance, IRR, NPV, tax equity structures and revenue‑stack dynamics.
  • Analytical & Communication Skills – Ability to translate complex technical and market inputs into clear financial narratives and presentations.
  • Team Player – Comfortable collaborating across multidisciplinary teams in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Adaptable & Self‑Driven – Thrives on ambiguity and can manage multiple workstreams with minimal supervision.

What they Offer

  • Hybrid Working – A modern, flexible approach: 3 days per week in our sleek central London office (Westminster) and 2 days remote.
  • Attractive Remuneration – Competitive base salary, performance‑linked bonus and equity participation.
  • Career Progression – Clear growth pathways: Senior Modeller → Commercial Manager → Head of Commercial.
  • Learning & Development – Sponsored training (CFI, FMVA), industry conferences and professional memberships.
  • Health & Wellbeing – Private medical, dental cover, cycle‑to‑work scheme and subsidised gym membership.
  • Vibrant Culture – Regular social events, “tech talk” lunch‑and‑learns, and a collaborative start‑up atmosphere.

If you have the relevant experience and are interested in the role of Financial Modeller, then do submit your CV.
