Take the lead legal role for a Group dedicated to sustainability


A UK-based group, driving growth in clean fuels, technology and property is seeking an agile Sole Counsel. This is a unique opportunity to oversee and shape all legal and compliance operations within companies at the forefront of sustainability and innovation.


Location: Lincolnshire (hybrid – 2 days in the office)

Industries: Clean energy, sustainable property, technology, R&D, waste management


  • Serve as the only in-house legal expert advising multidisciplinary, sustainability-driven businesses.
  • Advise executive members on a full range of corporate, commercial and contentious matters.
  • Own, develop, and embed company-wide legal frameworks and risk controls.


Role Overview


The Sole Counsel will act as the principal legal advisor to the CEO, with primary focus on Commercial Contracts, Corporate and risk management, as well as commercial disputes.


Responsibilities



Corporate & Commercial:

  • Draft, negotiate, and review a range of contracts: supply, construction, technology, licensing, development, and joint ventures.
  • Lead on M&A, with outside counsel.


Commercial Litigation:

  • Frontline management and resolution of commercial disputes (contractual, supplier, partnership, property, construction).
  • Instruct, manage, and coordinate with external counsel as needed.
  • Lead pre-action risk assessment, handle contentious correspondence,
  • Advise on litigation strategy and settlement.


Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Liaise directly with the CEO and board.
  • Deliver hands-on advice to senior management.
  • Educate staff on contracts, compliance, and legal best practice.


Candidate Profile


  • UK-qualified solicitor (ideally 8+ years PQE) with robust background in corporate, commercial, and contentious work.
  • Strong experience in contract negotiation, and managing day-to-day litigation with external support.
  • Able to balance commercial priorities with effective risk management and operate autonomously as the sole legal resource.
  • Strong-willed, confident and pragmatic communicator and negotiator, comfortable advising and working with C-suite.
