SSQ are partnering with a leading venture capital firm to recruit a Junior Legal Counsel (1–3 years PQE) to join its London HQ. This is a broad, corporate-focused legal role, ideal for someone looking to step into a fast-paced, transactional environment.


This is an opportunity to join a growth-stage technology investor based in London who are seeking a commercially minded Junior Legal Counsel to join their Legal & Operations team. This role offers broad exposure to all aspects of the business, including investments, fund matters and internal operations. You’ll work directly with the General Counsel and play a key role in supporting the legal function as they continue to invest in and support high-growth European technology companies.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Support on new investments and divestments, including structuring, documentation, and deal execution.
  • Advise on portfolio company matters, including governance, shareholder matters, and ad hoc legal queries.

    • Assist with fund-related work, including new fund formation, co-investments, and secondary transfers.
    • Provide legal input on commercial and operational matters, such as reviewing NDAs, commercial contracts, and employment documentation.
    • Liaise with external counsel and coordinate legal input across functions including finance, HR, and compliance.
    • Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes, templates, and internal know-how.
    • Maintain awareness of relevant legal developments affecting venture and growth equity investments.


    Candidate Requirements:


    • Qualified lawyer with 1–3 years’ PQE, ideally with strong corporate transactional experience from a leading firm or in-house role.
    • Exposure to venture capital, private equity, or fund work is a plus, but not essential.
    • Commercially pragmatic and solutions-oriented, with sound legal judgment and the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives.
    • A self-starter with a proactive mindset, comfortable working in a small, fast-paced team and taking ownership of tasks.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across functions.
    • Strong attention to detail, with excellent drafting and organisational skills.
    • A genuine interest in technology, growth-stage businesses, and venture investing.
