WHAT WILL YOU DO?

We are seeking a technically strong, reputable and commercially minded Class Underwriter – FINPRO to lead and manage a diverse portfolio of Financial and Professional Liability risks. This role is critical in driving profitable growth across products such as Professional Indemnity (PI) and Financial Institutions (FI). You will shape underwriting strategy, develop broker relationships, and ensure the quality and performance of the FINPRO book.



WHAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE?


Key Responsibilities:


Portfolio & Underwriting Management:

  • Own and manage the FINPRO portfolio, ensuring disciplined underwriting and strong technical performance.
  • Underwrite new and renewal business in accordance with syndicate philosophy and within the appetite and agreed underwriting authority.
  • Draft and agree the underwriting philosophy business plan and strategy with the CUO/Active Underwriter.
  • Assess complex financial and professional liability risks, applying strong technical and commercial judgment.


Product & Strategy Development:

  • Contribute to the development and evolution of FINPRO products including PI and FI classes
  • Collaborate with claims, actuarial, and legal teams to enhance policy wordings, pricing models, and underwriting tools.
  • Monitor emerging exposures (e.g. ESG, regulatory developments and adapt strategy accordingly.


Broker & Market Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key brokers, MGAs, and clients using the London market.
  • Negotiate complex placements and support large case underwriting across all FINPRO classes.
  • Represent the company at industry events, broker forums, and market presentations.
  • Where necessary visit clients offices and attend conferences overseas.


Portfolio Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Monitor portfolio performance using loss ratios, rate movements, risk mix, and underwriting metrics.
  • Identify areas of growth and underperformance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Work with claims, actuarial and pricing teams on profitability reviews and business planning.
  • Have input into the reinsurance data, structure, information and placement.


Governance & Collaboration:

  • Ensure underwriting activity is compliant with internal controls and external regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to audit readiness, peer reviews, and referral processes.
  • Collaborate with claims, legal, risk, finance, and compliance teams to ensure holistic risk and business oversight.


Mentorship & Development:

  • Provide technical guidance to underwriters or assistants.
  • Support internal training initiatives and knowledge sharing within the team.



QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Relevant Degree
  • 10+ Years Experience
  • Proven experience in underwriting FINPRO risks (e.g. PI, FI, Commercial Crime) within the Lloyd’s insurance market.
  • Solid understanding of legal, regulatory, and financial exposures impacting professional and financial lines.
  • Excellent risk assessment, pricing, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong broker relationships and a reputation for technical credibility and commercial acumen.
  • Familiarity with market-standard wordings and the ability to adapt to bespoke coverage needs.
  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g. ACII) preferred.
  • Experience working with large corporate accounts and international programmes.
  • Exposure to specialty markets, such as Lloyd’s or MGA-led distribution.
  • Awareness of ESG, and regulatory trends impacting FINPRO risks.
