HEAD: EXPOSURE MANAGEMENT

LOCATION: LONDON

This career opportunity is available at Santam Syndicate 1918 for the Head of Exposure Management, who will be based in the UK & have right to work in the UK.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Lead the identification, aggregation, modelling, pricing, and reporting of natural and man-made risk accumulations across the Lloyd’s business ensuring robust control, regulatory compliance, and strategic value delivery across all product lines.

WHAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE?

Key responsibilities:

Leadership & Oversight:

• Own and lead the syndicate’s exposure management strategy, systems, and framework.
• Manage a multi-disciplinary team of exposure analysts and catastrophe modellers.
• Act as the subject matter expert on exposure and accumulation risk across all lines.

Portfolio Management & Insight:

• Provide real-time exposure reporting and analytics to underwriters and management.
• Support class planning, portfolio optimisation, outwards reinsurance structuring, and business steering through scenario analysis and capacity deployment advice.
• Drive development and use of dashboards and tools to visualise accumulation metrics, PMLs, and RDS impacts.

Catastrophe Modelling & Data Governance:

• Oversee selection, management use of vendor models and Santam view of risk calibration.
• Ensure rigorous model validation and documentation.
• Own data quality, coding standards, and mapping processes across all modelling inputs.
• Extending capabilities in understanding man-made exposures including Cyber risk

Regulatory & Lloyd’s Returns:

• Manage and develop the relationship with Lloyds Exposure Management team.
• Work with Asta and Group to produce and submit. Regulatory filings as required.
• Maintain governance documentation including Exposure Management Framework, escalation protocols, and data dictionaries.

Capital & Risk Integration:

• Work with Risk teams in setting and monitoring risk appetite thresholds for accumulation.
• Collaborate with capital actuaries to ensure robust linkages between exposure metrics and ECA drivers.
• Support ORSA, internal model validation, and stress testing with exposure-driven scenarios.
• Provide technical expertise to other group initiatives as required.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

• Collaborate with London underwriters, actuarial and risk to assess and monitor accumulations.
• Group Risk and Reinsurance Teams
• Modelling software vendors
• Asta and Lloyd’s

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Degree in Natural Hazard modelling, Actuarial Science, Risk, or related discipline
• Relevant certifications in modelling tools preferred
• Minimum 7 years in exposure management or catastrophe modelling
• Insurance and regulatory reporting experience essential. Lloyd’s experience preferred.
