ResponsibilitiesThe Lead, Resource Demand Strategy is responsible for delivering robust business processes, systems/tools, cost analytics and data that enables effective portfolio/study planning and management of operations and resources, for Research & Development (R&D) organization. In partnership with R&D stakeholders, key accountabilities include:
- Development, maintenance, and analyses of study level (Best in Class and other) cost metrics and insights to inform decision making and enable consistency, efficiency and increased accuracy of early costs estimate throughout the life of study (including clinical trial vendor and clinical investigator spend).
- Supports ongoing utilization, maintenance and continuous improvement of the sponsor's integrated operations and business planning environment
- Oversees finance related services in support of budget development and resource management activities (e.g., forecast and target of spend, variance analysis, etc.) and the identification and delivery of portfolio and project information that enables the business to proactively plan work activities and make informed budget and resource allocation decisions including Functional Service Provider (FSP) utilization and annual contracting needs
- The Lead, Resource Demand Strategy will be a member of the Business & Vendor Strategy Management Leadership Team (BVSM-LT). As a BVSM-LT member this role will also function as a business partner providing critical business decisions, operations and strategy support to assigned PRD division leaders. This role is essential to the success of the CD&O Business & Vendor Strategy Manoperating model as the Resource and Cost Management will also be accountable for establishing a relationship management model with members of PRD Leadership Teams to ensure the effective delivery of BVSM operational support services and a high level of customer satisfaction
- Lead resource planning, utilization and demand management to drive demand utilization across global Research & Development (R&D). Lead and mentor team, fostering high-performance, continuous improvement and goal delivery
- Develop and implement resource planning strategy that aligns with R&D's business objectives as well as drive process optimization initiatives to improve resource utilization, processes and operational efficiencies
- Collaborate with project planners, business function leaders and partners within Finance, PX, Digital
- Provide input to R&D operating plan requirements. Manage OPEX in partnership with Finance, ensuring headcount and associated travel and training budgets are effectively forecast and then actively managed
- Review, update and pressure test resource algorithms, and oversee the development of data dashboards, visualization and reporting tools and predictive analysis
- Oversee capacity planning models to forecast future resourcing needs based on historical data, project demand and expected growth as well as staying informed on industry trends
- Support change management initiatives to enhance resource planning processes as well as scale resource planning capabilities, maintaining agility and adaptability to evolving business needs
- Enable business leaders to achieve annual budget objectives by driving effective financial stewardship of line operating budgets and internal/external resources, as well as supporting management of clinical trial vendorand investigator spend on behalf of stakeholders.
- Drive development of strategic operating plans, demand forecasts including FSP Resource Demand Plan process; prepare budget gap analyses (e.g., supply vs. Demand, etc.) and study level costs for business stakeholders in support of annual strategic Operating Plans and other governance and ongoing budget management needs
- Establish and lead business planning & forecasting activities through RAPID framework to enable portfolio and resource decision making. This includes facilitating scenario planning activities (e.g., project accelerations/ decelerations) through fit-for-purpose algorithms, modeling, analysis (e.g. Closed loop resource variance analysis), and templates related to managing direct costs (clinical trial vendor & investigator costs) and indirect resources as well as educating key business stakeholders on relevant business processes, algorithm design, drivers, etc.
- Oversee the tracking, maintenance and reporting of site/global workforce status information (e.g., internal/external resources) that defines organizational capacity for key business stakeholder group
- Accountable for managing critical business operations and strategic planning deliverables at senior levels, maintaining consistency across organizations to meet portfolio and strategic business priorities
- Collaborative working relationships and function as a key point of contact to assigned leaders on behalf of BVSM teams (matrix model)
- Responsible for talent development, career development, and performance management to ensure that talent is appropriately attracted, developed and deployed to carry out work responsibilities and deliver on business goals.
- Lead the development of an engaged and high performing workforce through focus on culture, talent development and business excellence, including manager of managers
- Prepares direct reports to assume new or increased responsibilities by creating meaningful assignments, providing appropriate training, and being a champion of succession planning.
- Fosters/champions a work environment that encourages business innovation and strong customer relationship management.
- Bachelor's degree with 15+ years' experience or a Master's degree with 13+ years' experience
- Knowledge and experience in drug development and clinical development operations
- Expertise in project management, portfolio management, AI/ML, financial analysis, data management, analytics
- Ability to understand and value different customer needs and provide tailored services where necessary; demonstrated customer service mentality and focus to successfully manage a customer-facing role.
- Strong communications (written and verbal) skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with customers/partners and the ability to invite input from these groups when determining what will work best for the business.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze and interpret relevant business, resource information and data to support decision-making processes with experience in budget management, resource management and resource modeling.
- Strong team player with the ability to engage functional experts across multiple business functions.
- Experience using project and/or resource management systems and reporting applications (e.g., Activity Tracking (AT), Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, XML, Planisware, ProModel Portfolio Simulator, Business Objects, Spotfire, PowerBI, Tableau, etc.). Planisware certification is a plus.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to be flexible and prioritize multiple demands.
- Expert in Excel, Tableau, Spotfire, Power BI, data analytics and modeling and experience in the use of project, resource and budget management applications and systems
- Strong negotiation and business partnering skills - proven ability to influence and align stakeholders towards common goals by leveraging strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Skilled in translating complex strategies into compelling narratives that resonate with stakeholders driving consensus and commitment and ensuring alignment
- Demonstrated ability to effectively implement tools and techniques in the project and resource management discipline
- Versed with leading high performance global teams
- Strong creative, critical thinker and collaborator/leader
- Experience managing multiple, highly complex projects and portfolio governance
