We are looking for a forward-thinking Head of Compliance to lead Waggel’s compliance function. This is a pivotal role where regulatory expertise meets commercial agility. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of FCA requirements and UK insurance regulation, and the ability to apply that knowledge in a way that enables Waggel to operate quickly, confidently, and compliantly.


You’ll be both a strategic advisor and a practical partner — someone who ensures we stay compliant without slowing down innovation. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to embed compliance into everyday decisions, helping us maintain trust with our customers while growing responsibly and efficiently.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead Compliance Function: Develop, implement, and manage Waggel’s compliance framework and strategy in line with FCA regulations and commercial objectives.
  • Regulatory Oversight: Monitor regulatory changes and ensure timely, pragmatic implementation across the business.
  • Operational Enablement: Collaborate with product, tech, and operations to ensure compliance is considered early in the development of products, services, and processes.
  • GDPR Compliance: Oversee data protection compliance across the organisation, ensuring adherence to GDPR working closely with relevant teams on data handling, customer rights, and breach procedures.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage compliance risks, helping the business navigate complexity without unnecessary friction.
  • Policy Development: Draft and maintain practical policies and procedures that support compliance while enabling agility.
  • Reporting: Preparation and management of reporting obligations with the FCA, underwriters and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Customer Focus: Ensure customer-facing teams and processes are aligned with Consumer Duty principles and other conduct rules.


Requirements


  • 5+ years in a compliance role within an FCA regulated financial services firm (preferably insurance or insurtech).
  • FCA approved SMF16 experience.
  • Strong understanding of FCA regulations and the UK insurance regulatory environment.
  • Experience designing and maintaining compliance frameworks that support innovation and growth.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain regulatory requirements in plain English.
