They are at the forefront of drone usage in the rail industry, bringing this innovation into practice with ecological and arboricultural surveys and assessments.
Your new role
This role offers the opportunity to work on a range of rail-based projects across the UK, contributing to ecological assessments, habitat management, and biodiversity enhancement.
You will play a key role in delivering high-quality ecological services, supporting planning applications, and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation. You will work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to promote sustainable development and conservation best practices.
- Conduct ecological surveys including Phase 1 habitat surveys, protected species surveys, and habitat condition assessments.
- Prepare ecological reports, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies to support planning and development projects.
- Advise clients and project teams on ecological constraints, opportunities, and legislative requirements.
- Assist in the design and implementation of habitat creation, restoration, and management plans.
- Liaise with statutory bodies, local authorities, and conservation organisations.
- Contribute to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments.
- Support junior staff and contribute to training and mentoring within the team.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ecological legislation, policy, and best practice guidance.
- Ensure health and safety standards are upheld during fieldwork and project delivery.
What you'll need to succeed
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) at Associate level (ACIEEM) minimum, or able to acheive in the next 6 months.
- Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in ecological surveying and reporting.
- Good working knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
- Protected species licences (e.g., bat, great crested newt) are desirable.
- Experience with GIS mapping and data analysis.
- Familiarity with Biodiversity Net Gain metrics and tools.
