Make a Real Impact as a Housing Officer in Hackney!

Are you passionate about creating strong, thriving communities? Do you have a knack for building relationships and ensuring residents feel heard and supported? The London Borough of Hackney is looking for a dedicated and proactive Housing Officer to join our team!

This isn't just a job; it's an opportunity to be at the heart of our neighborhoods, providing a tailored, resident-focused housing management service. You'll be the go-to person for a designated area, making a tangible difference in people's lives every day.

What You'll Do:

As a Housing Officer, you'll be responsible for a wide range of duties that directly impact our residents and estates:

  • Tenancy Management: You'll ensure tenants understand their rights and responsibilities, manage tenancy breaches, and process applications for transfers and mutual exchanges.
  • Estate Management: Be a visible presence in the community by conducting regular estate inspections, identifying maintenance needs, and working with residents to create action plans. You'll also handle issues like graffiti, abandoned properties, and fire risks.
  • Community Engagement: You'll play a key role in tenant participation by attending resident meetings, introducing new tenants to local groups, and helping to produce local newsletters
  • Problem-Solving: You'll investigate and manage low-level antisocial behaviour, deal with daily resident correspondence and phone calls, and provide written responses to inquiries from councillors and MPs.
  • Customer Service: You'll conduct initial visits to new tenants, ensuring they are satisfied with their new home and understand the terms of their tenancy

Who We're Looking For:

We're seeking an individual with a strong background in social housing and a genuine commitment to helping people. You should have:

  • Proven Housing Experience: You have experience in the social housing sector, specifically in leasehold and tenancy management, and are comfortable engaging with residents through estate inspections
  • Customer-Focused Approach: You have experience dealing with people both over the phone and in person, with the ability to provide clear advice and support
  • Knowledge & Skills: You possess a good understanding of the social housing sector and relevant legislation9. You have excellent written and verbal communication skills and can exercise good judgment10
  • Resilience & Adaptability: You're comfortable with change, have a flexible approach, and can look positively for solutions rather than obstacles
  • Commitment: You're committed to our core values, including diversity, equality, and a culture of continuous learning

If you're ready to take on a challenging yet rewarding role and help shape the future of our communities, we want to hear from you.
