About the Company

This role will play a key project management role in delivering the CAPEX projects for the group. The role will assist quantity surveying and project management functions both pre and post contract, encompassing commercial reporting, procurement, contract management and contract administration for a broad range of projects at any one time.


About the Role

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of several port projects. This role involves ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The Quantity Surveyor will work closely with project managers, contractors, and internal and external clients/stakeholders.


Responsibilities

  • Cost Management:
  • Prepare, monitor, and control budgets for projects.
  • Conduct cost analysis and value engineering to optimize project costs.
  • Provide accurate cost forecasting and cash flow management.


  • Contract Administration:
  • Manage contract negotiations, procurement, and administration.
  • Prepare, submit, and agree on interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Administer contractual terms and agreements, including NEC3&4 and have good knowledge of alternative forms of contract.
  • Resolve disputes and provide contractual advice to the project team.


  • Risk Management:
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Manage change control processes, including valuation of variations.


  • Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the project team and senior management.
  • Mentor and supervise junior quantity surveyors, providing guidance and support.
  • Promote a collaborative working environment across teams.


  • Client Liaison:
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and suppliers.
  • Attend client meetings and provide updates on project financial status.


  • Compliance and Standards:
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant legislation, regulations, and company policies.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and changes in construction law.
  • Assist the Commercial Manager with monthly commercial reporting, inc. CFR reporting, risk and budget control;
  • Delivering projects in accordance with approved project processes;
  • Ensuring all port areas comply with new project processes;
  • Ensuring all projects are contracted appropriately;
  • Managing the commercial administration of several port projects;
  • Supporting the project managers and wider group projects team with ongoing project issues;
  • Support procurement functions throughout the group including procurement model selection and bid analysis.


Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction subject;
  • Will ideally hold a current CSCS card;
  • A full valid Driving Licence;
  • This is a group role and there will at times be a requirement to travel across our sites portfolio;
  • Predominantly office based in Liverpool.


Required Skills

  • Experience working within the construction industry as either client, main contractor or specialist contractor;
  • Experience being the commercial lead for several large scale capital projects at any one time;
  • Appropriate awareness of procurement and contract administration processes such as payment cycles;
  • Detailed experience of the NEC3&4 form of contract;
  • Demonstrate an appropriate awareness and appreciation for relevant Construction Health and Safety regulations and best practice;


Preferred Skills

  • Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
