Our client, a UK-based multi-utilities infrastructure provider, is looking for a Streetlighting Designer to join their team. As the Streetlighting Designer, you’ll be working closely with developers and local authorities to design a range of lighting schemes - from private developments to S38 and highway lighting projects. Your role will involve producing designs and calculations, scoping works, providing quotes, and securing approvals, while offering expert guidance on lighting solutions and supply requirements. Key Responsibilities of the Streetlighting Designer:

  • Liaise with developers to define scope of works and provide design quotations
  • Produce designs using Lighting Reality, DIALux, Relux, and AutoCAD.
  • Produce cable calculations & Schematic diagrams to accompany the designs using Amtech
  • Laisse with Local Authorities for lighting assessments and approval of designs
  • Understand DNO & IDNO LV networks to determine supplies to columns
  • Offer guidance to clients with existing lighting issues.


Key skills and experience required for the Streetlighting Designer:

  • ILP Exterior Lighting Diploma (Modules 1–4) and current ILP membership
  • Strong knowledge of BS:5489 Road lighting code of practice
  • Experience with lighting contracts
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Lighting Reality, and Microsoft Office
  • Able to read technical drawings and provide accurate design quotations
  • Flexible, with strong communication skills
  • Full driving licence required for any site visits needed
  • BS7671 18th Edition, G39, and component identification experience (preferred)
