Steelwork Draughtsman – Bedford

I am currently recruiting for a Draughtsman to join a respected structural and architectural steelwork company based in Bedford. The business delivers a wide range of projects across London and the Home Counties, covering both large-scale structural steel and high-quality architectural metalwork.

The Role:

As a Draughtsman, you will be responsible for producing detailed drawings and models to support the design, fabrication, and installation of steel structures and metalwork. You will work closely with designers, engineers, and project managers to ensure all drawings are accurate, practical, and meet client and project requirements.

Key Duties:

• Producing detailed fabrication drawings, GA drawings, and 3D models for structural and architectural steelwork
• Creating Bills of Materials and cutting lists for workshop use
• Translating architectural and engineering drawings into accurate steelwork details
• Preparing drawings for design approval and client sign-off
• Coordinating with project managers, engineers, and the workshop to resolve design and drawing queries
• Updating and amending drawings as required during project stages
• Ensuring all drawings comply with industry standards, codes, and safety requirements
• Supporting multiple live projects simultaneously, working to tight deadlines
• Providing drawing support during the fabrication and site installation phases

The Candidate:

• Previous experience as a Draughtsman within the structural and/or architectural steelwork industry is essential
• Proficient in steelwork detailing software (such as Tekla Structures, Advance Steel, or AutoCAD)
• Strong understanding of fabrication and installation processes
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural engineering drawings
• High attention to detail with excellent problem-solving skills
• Good communication skills for liaising with internal teams and clients
