Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Crawley

Salary: £65,000 – £80,000


I’m working with a premium residential developer seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their Commercial team in Crawley. This is a key strategic role within a growing business, ideal for someone with strong housebuilding experience and proven leadership capability.


You’ll take commercial responsibility for three live residential sites, collectively delivering around 300 new low-rise homes. These are high-quality, multi-phase developments requiring careful budget control, proactive risk management, and consistent commercial reporting.


You will report directly to the Commercial Manager, playing a central role in the commercial performance of your projects. You’ll lead on all aspects of cost planning, subcontractor procurement, valuations, change control, and final accounts, ensuring each development is delivered profitably and aligned with business targets.


You'll manage and mentor a Quantity Surveyor and an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, working closely with site, technical, construction, and finance teams to ensure full commercial alignment across your projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Full commercial oversight of 3 residential developments (approx. 300 units)
  • Preparing and managing project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports
  • Procuring and managing subcontractor packages and contracts
  • Producing accurate CVRs and reporting to senior management
  • Managing monthly valuations, payments, and final accounts
  • Identifying and managing variations and change control
  • Supporting land appraisals and project mobilisation
  • Promoting commercial best practice and risk management


Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior QS in residential housebuilding
  • Strong knowledge of JCT contracts and procurement processes
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills
  • Ability to lead on multiple sites and manage junior team members
  • Organised, detail-driven, and confident in cross-team communication
