Job description

A highly regarded legal practice is looking for an experienced compliance specialist to join its central risk and governance function. The key focus of this role is supporting on professional indemnity claims and complaints will scope to get involved with broader risk work. Key Responsibilities:


  • Handle the end-to-end management of complaints, working closely with legal teams and senior stakeholders to ensure fair resolution and regulatory compliance.
  • Draft detailed, professional responses to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) in relation to enquiries, investigations, and practice reviews.
  • Support the investigation and collation of materials related to professional indemnity insurance claims and liaise with insurers and external counsel as needed.
  • Maintain records and registers relating to complaints, claims, breaches, and risk assessments in line with internal governance protocols.
  • Assist with preparing reports, summaries, and regulatory updates for internal committees and senior leadership.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory developments (SRA, ICO, Law Society, etc.) and advise internal stakeholders on changes to obligations or practice standards.
  • Oversee data protection compliance, including the handling of Subject Access Requests (SARs) and internal data incident responses.


Skills & Experience Required:


  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a compliance or risk role within a law firm or regulated professional environment.
  • Solid understanding of the professional indemnity landscape within legal services, including experience managing or supporting claims.
  • Strong knowledge of the SRA Standards and Regulations, complaints procedures, and relevant conduct rules.
  • Familiarity with data protection law (UK GDPR) and experience responding to SARs and data incidents.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to draft clear, formal correspondence and structured reports.
  • Highly organised and analytical, with the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
