Salary: £105,504 to £139,882 a year per annum pro rata

Job Summary

UHDB is seeking a Consultant Geriatrician to join our expanding Department for Medicine of the Elderly (DME). Our service has grown significantly, with 16 Consultants across 4 wards at Derby and 3 Consultants across 2 wards at Burton.

You will contribute to inpatient care, outpatient clinics, and specialist services, including Parkinson’s disease, falls, fracture prevention, syncope, and orthogeriatrics. Opportunities exist to develop community outreach, research, and education.

Main Duties

• Provide Consultant-led care for older patients on wards and in clinics.
• Support specialist services (e.g., Parkinson’s Centre of Excellence, falls clinics).
• Contribute to Geriatric Liaison services supporting acute and surgical teams.
• Supervise and teach undergraduates and postgraduates.
• Participate in research, audits, and service development.

Person Specification

Essential:

• Full GMC registration + licence to practice.
• MBBS/MBChB + MRCP.
• Eligible for GMC Specialist Register (CCT/CESR within 6 months).
• 5 years SpR-level training in Geriatric/General Medicine.
• Teaching experience & publications.

Desirable:

• Higher degree (MD/PhD).
• Postgraduate thesis.
