Head of Construction – Later Living Development (Remote, South of England)

£100k - £125k plus package and bonus.


We are working with a leading developer focused on creating exceptional later living and retirement communities across the South of England. With a reputation for quality, innovation, and resident well-being, they design and deliver bespoke, sustainable schemes that enhance lifestyle and independence.


The Role

As Head of Construction, reporting directly to the Managing Director for Development, you will:

  • Own the entire construction delivery lifecycle across multiple concurrent later living and retirement sites.
  • Lead internal project teams and external contractors/sub-contractors from initial planning through to completion.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, to budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.
  • Collaborate closely with development, design, commercial, and facilities teams to maintain alignment across the business.
  • Cultivate strong client and stakeholder relationships, facilitating regular site visits and progress meetings.

Travel Commitment

Although predominantly remote, the role requires travel throughout the South of England to:

  • Attend regional site visits
  • Lead on-site team meetings, reviews, inspections, and handovers
  • Provide strategic oversight and mentorship to construction teams in the field


What You’ll Bring

  • Background Experience:
  • Hands-on experience with both a main contractor and a developer, ideally within the multiple-site, later living or residential sector.
  • Proven track record leading teams and delivering multiple projects to programme, budget, quality, and compliance targets.
  • Leadership & Management:
  • Experience building, mentoring, and managing diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Capacity to oversee complex site delivery and build relationships across internal and external partners.
  • Technical & Commercial Acumen:
  • Full understanding of construction processes, contract types, cost control, and risk mitigation.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK building regulations, procurement, contractor pre-qualification, and health & safety standards.
  • Communication & Interpersonal:
  • Outstanding communicator experienced with stakeholder engagement and contractor negotiation.
  • Confident presenting project updates to C-suite and development boards.
  • Personal Qualities:
  • Autonomous, strategic thinker who thrives in a fast-paced multi-site environment.
  • Comfortable with significant site travel and remote leadership.
  • Passionate about delivering excellence in later living through quality, innovation, and sustainable design.
