Homeless Prevention Officer

Location: West Sussex

Hours: 37.5 per week (2 days in office)

Contract: Temporary – 3 months

Rate: £26–30 per hour

We are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in West Sussex for a proactive and compassionate Homeless Prevention Officer. This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact by helping individuals at risk of homelessness secure safe and sustainable housing.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide tailored housing advice and early intervention support to prevent homelessness.
• Assess housing needs and develop prevention plans under the Homelessness Reduction Act.
• Respond to Duty to Refer cases and work with housing associations to prevent evictions.
• Support access to private rented accommodation and carry out affordability assessments.
• Investigate illegal evictions and liaise with legal teams and enforcement agencies.
• Build partnerships with external agencies to ensure holistic support for clients.
• Maintain accurate case records and contribute to service development.

✅ Candidate Profile

• Strong knowledge of housing legislation and homelessness prevention.
• Experience supporting vulnerable individuals and working within multi-agency teams.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage a varied caseload and remain resilient under pressure.
• Must hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
• Enhanced DBS check required.
