Operations Officer
Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Work Pattern Shift Working - including nights and weekends
Department: Operations Control Centre
Location: East Midlands Airport
Responsible to: OCC Manager
Role Summary
Responsible for coordinating short-term crewing and supporting flight operations to ensure compliance, efficiency, and schedule integrity. This includes managing crew logistics, monitoring aircraft movements, handling disruptions, maintaining accurate records, and supporting OCC leadership.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate short-term crewing for all operated flights, ensuring compliance with company policy and regulation.
- Manage crew coverage for ad-hoc and disrupted flights, ensuring schedules remain compliant and all travel/accommodation arrangements are handled appropriately.
- Monitor aircraft movements, report schedule deviations, and manage flight plans and ground handling during disruptions.
- Maintain clear communication with OCC staff and keep the Shift Supervisor informed of issues, risks, and proposed solutions.
- Provide thorough shift handovers, highlighting ongoing tasks, risks, and opportunities to maintain schedule integrity.
- Track all personnel on aircraft ensuring all required Border Control requirements are met.
- Ensure training requirements are all operating crew are current, reporting any alerts to the OCC Supervisor and Training Department as required.
- Support crew needs including accommodation, transport, and respond to aircrew enquiries; update crew management systems.
- Perform departmental administration to required standards and timelines, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Uphold professional conduct in line with company policy and assist the OCC Supervisor/Manager with daily workload.
Academic/Educational Requirements
- Educated to ‘A’ level or equivalent
Required Skills/Experience/knowledge:
Highly Desirable Experience:
- 2-years recent Aviation Operations experience (Highly Desirable)
- Experience scheduling a workforce to fulfil operational requirements
- Experience using scheduling software in a transport environment.
Essential Skills:
- Effective and proven positive interpersonal skills and a demonstrable ability to work effectively within a team.
- Excellent communication skills (both written & verbal)
- Proven problem solving & Planning skills
- Proven ability to work under time pressure
- Attention to detail and numeracy skills
- Ability to manage fatigue around shift work.
Terms and Conditions:
- Initial Salary £28,951
- 22 Shifts Annual Holiday
- Mix of 12-hour night and day shifts on a fixed pattern 0600-1800 / 1800-0600.
- Pension (2% Contribution / 6% Paid in by WA)

- First Year - Internal Training, Coaching
- Second Year - UK Aviation Diploma (NVQ Level 3). Promotion to Senior Operations Officer (£33,608*)
- Years 3-4 - Consolidation, Experience Building, Upskilling, Eligible for promotion to OCC supervisor (£38,800*)
