Job description

In-House Employment Lawyer – Magic Circle Firm

London-based | Global remit | Permanent role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Employment Lawyer to join the in-house legal team of a Magic Circle law firm.

This is a chance to step into a strategic, high-impact role at the heart of one of the world’s leading legal businesses. As the team transitions into a global Centre of Excellence for ER and employment law, they're looking for a smart, pragmatic and versatile lawyer who can deliver clear, business-focused advice across a wide range of matters.

The Role

You’ll act as a key advisor across the organisation, working closely with HR, Legal & Risk, and senior stakeholders. While UK-based, the role has a strong international scope and an initial focus on complex global restructuring and outsourcing projects.

Your work will also cover:

  • Advising on ER issues (disciplinary, grievance, performance, investigations).
  • Managing claims, settlements, and employment litigation (including external counsel).
  • Overseeing disclosure, DSARs, and case management.
  • Reviewing and updating employment policies and frameworks.
  • Drafting and advising on contracts, templates, and reward policies.
  • Providing employment support on corporate/commercial transactions (including TUPE).
  • Delivering employment law updates and training to HR and the wider business.

About You

  • You will bring solid experience as an employment lawyer, able to advise with authority and guide senior stakeholders adeptly through complex situations. We would typically anticipate 6+ years’ PQE, including some meaningful prior in-house experience.
  • Experience working in a regulated and/or partnership environment is highly desirable.
  • You will have demonstrable experience dealing with employment law matters on an international basis, including cross-border projects.
  • Commercial and pragmatic – able to simplify complexity and deliver business-ready advice.
  • Collegiate and approachable – a trusted partner for stakeholders at all levels.
  • Organised and resilient – confident managing a varied workload and tight deadlines.

Why This Role?

This is a rare opportunity to work in-house at a Magic Circle firm – combining exposure to complex, cross-border employment law challenges with the ability to shape policy, practice, and strategy from within.

You’ll join a high-performing, collaborative team and play a key role in driving greater global oversight, consistency, and best practice across the firm.

Salary £120k+, with scope for more experienced candidates.
