Senior Planning Lawyer


Our client, an international law firm with a strong presence in key global sectors, is seeking a Senior Planning Lawyer to join their Birmingham office. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced planning lawyer to work on high-profile development projects and contribute to the firm's continued success.


Position Overview


As a Senior Planning Lawyer, you will play a crucial role in advising on a diverse range of commercial development projects, residential schemes, and infrastructure work. You will collaborate closely with clients, local authorities, and other professionals to deliver practical, commercially-sound legal solutions.


Responsibilities


  • Manage a caseload of planning matters, meeting tight deadlines
  • Advise on major office, retail, and logistics development projects
  • Act for house builders on strategic residential schemes up to 5,000 homes
  • Handle infrastructure work, including Development Consent Orders
  • Assist with compulsory purchase matters for housing and regeneration schemes
  • Draft and negotiate planning agreements and infrastructure agreements
  • Provide clear, practical advice with sound commercial judgment


Requirements


  • Qualified lawyer with strong experience in planning law
  • Excellent drafting skills for planning-related deeds and documents
  • Experience with planning applications, hearings, appeals, and due diligence
  • Ability to manage a caseload effectively and remain calm under pressure
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Collaborative approach to working with team members and clients
