Disputes Associate in City of London

Sonder Consultants is looking for an Disputes Associate in City of London

Job description

The Firm

An international law firm with a growing London disputes practice, combining international arbitration and commercial litigation into a single, integrated team. The structure offers associates the opportunity to build a truly hybrid disputes practice, working across high-stakes litigation in the English courts, major institutional arbitrations, and cross-border regulatory matters. The team is deliberately lean, giving junior lawyers close partner access and significant responsibility from the outset.

The Practice

The group handles a wide variety of complex, multi-jurisdictional disputes spanning both arbitration and litigation. Work regularly involves:

International Arbitration: high-value disputes under leading institutional rules (ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, ICSID, SIAC), covering energy, telecoms, construction, mining, joint ventures, and post-M&A conflicts. Clients include corporates, sovereign states, and high-net-worth individuals.

Commercial Litigation: financial services disputes, complex enforcement actions, shareholder disputes, and multi-jurisdictional cases, frequently reaching the Commercial Court, Court of Appeal, and occasionally the Supreme Court.

Cross-Over Work: hybrid matters with both arbitration and litigation aspects, including the enforcement of arbitral awards and competition-related disputes in specialist tribunals.

The Role:

  • Draft and manage submissions, witness statements, and expert reports.
  • Run disclosure processes and coordinate with arbitral institutions across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Prepare for hearings in large-scale arbitrations, often involving billions in dispute.
  • Handle pleadings, applications, disclosure and trial preparation in the English courts.
  • Take ownership of workstreams such as evidence management, trial prep, and case strategy, with direct client contact.
  • Collaborate with international offices and external counsel, gaining exposure to multi-jurisdictional strategy.
  • Contribute to research, client advisory work, and business development initiatives, while mentoring junior colleagues where appropriate.

Candidate Profile:

  • 1–3 PQE with experience from a leading international disputes practice.
  • Exposure to both arbitration and litigation is ideal, though strength in one with interest in the other will be considered.
  • Strong drafting, advocacy, and case management skills.
  • Appetite for responsibility in a lean, high-performing team environment.
  • Collaborative and adaptable personality, comfortable with cross-border work.
