Risk Lawyer – 12 Month FTC (Maternity Cover)

London | Hybrid | Up to £95,000 | International Law Firm


My client, a leading international law firm, is seeking a Risk Lawyer to join their Risk & Compliance team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. This role offers the opportunity to work at the heart of the firm’s risk function, supporting partners and senior management on a wide range of compliance and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on daily queries relating to the SRA Code of Conduct, professional standards, ethics, data protection, supplier contracts, and conflicts
  • Identify new or evolving regulatory requirements and assess their impact on the firm’s operations globally
  • Draft, review, and update firm policies, procedures, and terms of engagement (both client-facing and with external counsel/experts)
  • Analyse conflict reports and advise on complex conflict issues, including those relating to US conflicts rules
  • Support the firm’s Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP), General Counsel, and senior stakeholders on risk and compliance matters
  • Maintain compliance registers and monitor ongoing obligations
  • Assist with training initiatives and ad hoc risk projects as required

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified lawyer (England & Wales) with at least 2 years’ legal compliance experience in an international firm
  • Strong knowledge of the SRA Handbook and Code of Conduct
  • Proven ability to draft and review legal policies, terms of engagement, and contracts
  • Good understanding of key compliance areas including data protection, AML, sanctions, anti-bribery, corporate tax evasion, and modern slavery rules
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and IT skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders
  • Discretion, professionalism, and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach
  • Experience delivering training on compliance matters (desirable)
