Job description

Simmons & Hanbury are partnering with an algorithmic trading firm who are looking to add a Derivatives Lawyer to their growing legal team. The position will work alongside a Senior Derivatives Counsel as well as a handful of other in-house lawyers. It's a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment which offers plenty of potential for career progression.


Key responsibilities

  • Provide legal support on a wide range of derivatives and trading matters, with a particular focus on OTC derivatives, cleared derivatives, and prime brokerage.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate ISDA Master Agreements, CSAs, prime brokerage documentation, and related trading agreements.
  • Advise on the legal and regulatory frameworks impacting derivatives and algorithmic trading, including EMIR, MiFID II, and related FCA requirements.
  • Partner closely with front-office, risk, and compliance teams to support trading activity and ensure effective risk management.
  • Manage relationships with external counsel and counterparties to resolve complex legal and contractual issues.
  • Support broader legal initiatives across the firm, including governance, regulatory change projects, and commercial contracts.


Experience requirements

  • Qualified lawyer in the UK with 2–5 years’ post-qualification experience.
  • Strong derivatives experience gained at a leading law firm, trading firm, or investment bank.
  • Deep understanding of ISDA documentation and related derivatives agreements.
  • Excellent negotiation and drafting skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to work in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and eager to contribute to a small, collaborative legal function.
