Children’s Social Worker – Safeguarding & Support Team (Central 1)

Location: Hereford, HR4 0LE

Employer: Optima Staffing (on behalf of Herefordshire Council)

Contract: Temporary (14 weeks) subject to extension

Start Date: 20th October 2025

⏱ Hours: 37 per week

Pay: £24.37 – £30.57 per hour (West Midlands MOU Rates)

Benefits: £150 per week accommodation allowance + 45p per mile mileage reimbursement

About the Role

Optima Staffing is recruiting an experienced Children’s Social Worker to join the Safeguarding & Support Team (Central 1) at Herefordshire Council.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Social Worker to take on a meaningful role where you’ll help safeguard children, support families, and contribute to long-term positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse caseload, working with families to achieve the best outcomes for children.
• Apply a restorative and strengths-based approach to social work practice.
• Prepare high-quality reports and confidently give oral evidence in court.
• Work closely with Herefordshire Council’s Legal Team and dedicated court progression officers.
• Ensure compliance with statutory safeguarding responsibilities.

Requirements

• Qualified Social Worker (DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent).
• Minimum of 3 years’ statutory social care experience.
• Experience managing complex caseloads.
• Strong court work experience (report writing & oral evidence).
• Commitment to safeguarding and improving the lives of children and young people.
