Underwriting Governance Partner – Specialist
Location: London (Hybrid x2 days per week)
Type: Permanent
A leading insurer is seeking a skilled and proactive Underwriting Governance Partner – Specialist to join its first-line underwriting support function. This is a critical role focused on maintaining robust underwriting controls, providing independent challenge, and ensuring regulatory confidence across underwriting platforms and teams.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Underwriting Governance, you’ll play a key part in designing, implementing, and maintaining the underwriting control framework. You’ll work closely with underwriting teams to monitor adherence, investigate exceptions, and support strategic governance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage first-line defence frameworks and processes to ensure compliance with underwriting governance.
- Analyse governance/control reports, investigate exceptions, and communicate findings to underwriters.
- Partner with underwriting divisions to provide independent challenge and support remediation efforts.
- Present findings and updates to underwriting and legal entity committees.
- Support the Independent Review process and track associated actions and trends.
- Maintain and update underwriting controls documentation and associated training materials.
- Drive simplification and efficiency through process and technology improvements.
- Ensure accurate documentation and audit trails for all governance activities.
- Collaborate with Underwriting, Legal & Compliance, and Internal Audit teams on strategic projects.
Skills & Experience
- Proven ability to manage and prioritise multiple initiatives.
- Experience in designing and implementing governance frameworks.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and ability to provide fair, independent challenge.
- Solid understanding of insurance/reinsurance underwriting, particularly in commercial lines.
- Knowledge of both Lloyd’s and company markets.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including report writing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other business-related software.
