Records Management & Data Governance Specialist - Financial Services - £700 per day (Outside IR35
The Records Management & Data Governance Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring that the organisation’s data and records are managed in line with regulatory obligations, internal policies, and industry best practices. This position will require close collaboration with stakeholders across the business to establish, maintain, and monitor governance frameworks that protect the integrity, accessibility, and security of information assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Records Management
- Develops and maintains records management policies, procedures, and retention schedules.
- Oversees the classification, storage, retrieval, and disposal of records in line with regulatory requirements.
- Conducts periodic audits of records systems to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
- Data Governance
- Supports the implementation of data governance frameworks, standards, and controls across the business.
- Partners with business units to define data ownership, stewardship, and accountability.
- Monitors data quality, usage, and compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, FCA, PRA).
- Contributes to the development of data dictionaries, glossaries, and metadata management practices.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Acts as a key liaison between business functions, IT, Risk, Compliance, and Legal to ensure alignment of data governance and record management objectives.
- Provides training, guidance, and support to stakeholders on best practices in data handling and records management.
- Facilitates working groups and forums to embed a culture of data responsibility and compliance.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in records management, data governance, or information management within financial services (banking, insurance, asset management, etc.).
- Strong understanding of data lifecycle management and information governance principles.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and ability to interpret regulatory requirements into practical solutions.
- Familiarity with data governance tools, records management systems, or enterprise content management platforms is desirable.
