Job description

We are seeking experienced contractor professional to join our Front Office Risk & Controls team, supporting major global financial institutions in strengthening their electronic & algorithmic trading control frameworks, front office supervision, and risk governance structures.

This is a contract role for individuals with deep expertise in algo trading risk management and regulatory standards, combined with hands-on experience in front office controls and regulatory remediation.

Role Overview

As a contractor, you will provide specialist knowledge and practical solutions to address risks associated with electronic trading, supervision frameworks, and trading control environments. You will be a subject matter expert in designing, assessing, and implementing robust algo trading control frameworks aligned with global regulatory expectations (e.g., FCA, PRA, ESMA, MiFID II).

Key Focus Areas

• Electronic / Algorithmic Trading Controls
• – Assess, design, and implement governance frameworks to monitor and control algorithmic trading activity.
• – Ensure compliance with UK and EU algo trading regulations, addressing supervisory expectations and best industry practices.
• Front Office Supervision
• – Develop and optimise supervisory control frameworks, MI reporting, and oversight tools to strengthen first line of defence controls.
• Trading Control Frameworks
• – Evaluate existing frameworks for weaknesses, implement controls to mitigate unauthorised/inappropriate trading activity, and recommend automation opportunities.
• Regulatory Remediation
• – Lead and deliver remediation programmes in response to regulator feedback, risk incidents, or industry-driven change.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver projects, focusing on algo trading and front office risk control issues.
• Provide subject matter expertise to senior stakeholders within global banks, advising on effective governance, supervision, and risk management frameworks.
• Design and implement fit-for-purpose trading control environments to meet regulatory and operational expectations.
• Contribute to methodology and knowledge development within the risk & controls practice.

Required Experience

We are looking for contractors who bring:

• Proven expertise in algo trading controls and risk management within global markets.
• Strong knowledge of UK & EU regulatory frameworks (e.g., MiFID II algo requirements, MAR, FCA/PRA expectations).
• Background in consulting or front office control functions (supervision, risk, compliance, or COO).
• Strong understanding of front office operations and associated risks.
• Hands-on experience in project delivery and stakeholder engagement at senior levels.
• Ability to assess and challenge control environments, with a track record of delivering practical improvements.
