Quantity Surveyor - Civil Engineering & Groundworks

Location: Gloucester

Salary: £45,000 – £75,000


We are seeking an experienced and motivated Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established, family-run company specialising in residential groundworks with the associated civils. With a strong pipeline of projects and ambitious growth plans, this is an exciting opportunity to become part of a business that values its people and offers long-term career prospects.


The Role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in the commercial management of residential groundworks projects, ensuring profitability and smooth project delivery. Working closely with the operations and site teams, you will be responsible for cost control, valuations, and contract management while supporting the company’s continued expansion. Continued, due to the company growth, they are looking for someone ambitious and looking to grow, in order to work in line with their genuine opportunities to progress to a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Management role.


Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing and managing project budgets, forecasts, and cost plans
  • Preparing valuations, variations, and final accounts
  • Monitoring and controlling project costs against budgets
  • Negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive rates
  • Preparing and reviewing contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual terms
  • Identifying risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions
  • Working closely with site managers and directors to deliver projects successfully
  • Producing accurate and timely commercial reports for senior management


About You

  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within groundworks or civil engineering (residential focus preferred)
  • Strong commercial acumen with excellent attention to detail
  • Proven ability to manage costs and maximise project profitability
  • Confident negotiator with strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team
  • A proactive, driven, and ambitious mindset – keen to grow with the business
