Position Summary


The primary role of the Field Application Scientist is to support current Cephla users get the most from their systems and demonstrating our solutions to prospective customers who are reviewing our products with the intention of purchase. The field application scientist will also support Cephla’s sales and marketing.

The ideal candidate would have a background in advanced microscopy techniques including automation and imaging.


About Cephla


Cephla builds open and scalable automated microscopes optimized for specific applications to accelerate discoveries and solutions.

The Squid product line aims at eliminating barriers of access to high-end/bespoke systems, increasing data generation throughput, and making it easier to develop/adopt new capabilities/technologies.

The Octopi project aims at helping accelerate the paradigm shift in microscopy-based diagnostics, starting with malaria - a diseases affecting hundreds of millions of people every year.


Essential Functions


Product Support, Testing & Demonstration (70%)

· Understanding products, software and use cases.

· Demonstrating Cephla’s systems via web and in person

· Product testing and calibration

· Arranging and conducting support sessions

· Managing all open customer and internal case (information requests)

· Answering incoming telephone calls and emails for service and support

· On site installations of equipment

· Other duties assigned by management.


Development & Promotion (30%)

· Attending trade shows and giving talks

· Establishing and documenting of key references

· Creating training materials, white papers, and other promotional material

· Work with the marketing to review materials

· Conduct customer interviews to understand application (jobs-to-be-done)

· Visit customers to obtain voice of customer information


Skills & Expertise

· Experience with microscopy and advanced imaging techniques

· PhD in (Physics, Biology, Chemistry or equivalent)

· Experience with building and assembling microscopes and optical equipment

· Experience with Python

· Enthusiastic and eager to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced, and high-growth environments.

· Exceptionally organized with the flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities.

· Self-driven, ambitious, and proactive, showcasing a strong entrepreneurial spirit.


Working Conditions

  • Office based (Central Birmingham)
  • Flexible working schedule (start between 7am and 10am)
  • Flexible working location (30-40%)
  • (20% work from home after 6 month probation)
  • Travel as required
  • 25 days annual holiday
  • £35-45,000 (based on experience)
