Knowledge Assistant / Officer – Law firm
A leading law firm has a new permanent job opportunity for a Knowledge Officer, based in London.
This would suit someone with a small amount of Knowledge and Information experience who would like to develop their career in Knowledge Management.
As Knowledge Officer your job role will include:
- Identifying, collecting, redacting, and storing internal know-how for the practice area, including example precedents, notes of advice and counsel’s opinions, guidance and publications, and presentations.
- Assisting the practice area’s knowledge lawyers with organising the group’s education and training programme, including arranging training sessions, disseminating materials, and identifying topics for future training sessions.
- Assisting the practice area’s knowledge lawyers with preparing and updating standard form precedents and guidance notes.
- From time to time conducting discrete legal research for the practice area’s knowledge lawyers. Providing direct assistance to fee-earners to help locate and use relevant resources.
- Assisting with preparing internal and external bulletins and newsletters, including regular briefings and ad hoc articles.
- Conducting deal debriefs with fee-earners to collect information, know-how and deal statistics, with a view to enhancing the practice area’s know-how repository and leveraging data for client awareness and publications.
- Supporting the creation, maintenance and management of precedents, templates and forms generated by the firm’s document automation tools, encouraging the use of document automation, and promoting its availability and best practice.
- Working with the firm’s Lawtech team to test new legal IT products with a focus on application within the practice area. Working with the firm’s information services team to test new legal resources, again with a focus on application within the practice area.
The ideal candidate may have 6 months to a year's experience working in a junior Knowledge Management role, ideally in a legal, professional services or corporate office environment.
A degree in Library and Information Studies or similar would be beneficial.
You will thrive on driving the delivery of Knowledge Management projects and programmes, be personable and have bags of enthusiasm.
You will possess the ability to develop a good understanding of the work of the legal practice areas to appreciate internal clients' information needs, to identify relevant knowledge and effectively draft/edit summaries and disseminate such content.
This position is suitable for someone who would like to develop a career in Knowledge Management, and who is interested in learning how Knowledge and Information services can support a corporate law firm. (It is not a conduit towards achieving a training contract.)
