Mechanical Assembler - Defence Engineering - Portsmouth

Copello have partnered with an established defence engineering business based in Portsmouth to recruit an experienced Mechanical Assembler to join their production team.

This is a hands-on, detail-focused role responsible for assembling, fitting, and testing mechanical components used in high-integrity defence systems. The successful candidate will work as part of a skilled team, ensuring that all assemblies meet the required standards of quality, precision, and reliability.

Key aspects of the role include:

• Assembling and fitting mechanical and electromechanical components to engineering drawings and work instructions
• Using hand tools, torque wrenches, and measuring equipment to precise tolerances
• Conducting functional tests and inspections to verify build quality
• Working closely with engineers, quality, and production teams to resolve build issues
• Supporting continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives
• Maintaining a safe and organised work environment in line with company and defence standards

Ideal background:

• Apprenticeship or qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (preferred but not essential)
• Previous experience in mechanical assembly, fitting, or precision manufacturing
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and assembly instructions
• Experience working within a regulated or defence environment desirable
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
• Eligible for UK Security Clearance (essential)
