Fire Safety Site Inspector

About the Role

Our client is seeking a Fire Safety Site Inspector to join their consultancy team. This is a practical, site-focused role for individuals with strong knowledge of fire safety in construction and existing buildings.


You will carry out site inspections, prepare detailed reports, undertake fire risk assessments, and provide professional advice to support compliance with the Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act, and fire safety legislation. The role is particularly suited to candidates with experience of high-rise residential buildings and fire risk appraisal in line with PAS 9980.



Key Responsibilities

As a Site Inspector, you will:

Site Inspections & Reporting

  • Conduct site visits across a variety of building types.
  • Produce accurate, detailed site inspection and technical reports.
  • Identify fire safety issues and propose practical, proportionate solutions.

Fire Risk Assessment

  • Carry out Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) and prepare supporting documentation.
  • Undertake and produce Fire Risk Appraisals of External Walls (FRAEWs) in accordance with PAS 9980 methodology.

Technical Advice & Compliance

  • Provide fire safety advice during design, construction, and post-construction stages.
  • Support clients in complying with the functional requirements of the Building Regulations using guidance such as Approved Document B, BS 9991, and BS 9999.
  • Advise clients on their responsibilities under the Building Safety Act and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order.
  • Review and comment on technical documents including plans, sections, elevations, and design details.

Client & Team Liaison

  • Attend client and design team meetings to provide clear, professional advice.
  • Work collaboratively with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure compliance is achieved.


Essential & Desirable Skills

Essential

  • Experience in undertaking site inspections and preparing technical reports.
  • Knowledge of UK fire safety legislation, including the Building Safety Act and Fire Safety Order.
  • Ability to review and interpret construction drawings and technical details.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly present findings to clients and colleagues.
  • Experience working within a consultancy, construction, or regulatory environment.

Desirable

  • Degree or qualification in Fire Engineering, Building Surveying, or a related discipline.
  • Background in construction (e.g. Clerk of works, surveying, or site management).
  • Familiarity with PAS 9980 methodology for FRAEWs.
  • Membership (or working towards membership) of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or another relevant professional body.
