Managing Quantity Surveyor – Water Projects (Thames Water AMP8 Frameworks)

Location: Thames Valley region (hybrid working)


Overview

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a leading UK civil engineering and utilities contractor delivering major works within the Thames Water AMP8 programme. The role offers the chance to oversee commercial delivery across a portfolio of water infrastructure schemes, leading a commercial team and supporting the strategic growth of a long-term framework partnership.


The Role

The Managing Quantity Surveyor will take full commercial responsibility for a section of the Thames Water AMP8 framework, ensuring robust financial management across both clean and wastewater schemes. You’ll manage a team of Quantity Surveyors, oversee subcontractor performance, and drive cost control, forecasting, and value management to ensure project and framework profitability.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the commercial management of multiple water infrastructure projects under the AMP8 framework.
  • Manage and mentor a team of Quantity Surveyors, supporting development and consistency across projects.
  • Oversee cost planning, budgeting, change control, and commercial reporting to both internal stakeholders and the client.
  • Administer NEC contracts, ensuring compliance with contract terms and commercial procedures.
  • Engage with operational teams to provide accurate cost/value reconciliation, cashflow forecasting, and risk analysis.
  • Work collaboratively with Thames Water and delivery partners to ensure transparent commercial performance and shared success.
  • Lead subcontract procurement, tendering, and contract negotiation.
  • Drive efficiencies through value engineering and proactive commercial strategy.


Experience Required:

  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent (RICS accreditation preferred).
  • Proven experience in a commercial leadership role within the water, utilities, or civil engineering sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC suite of contracts.
  • Experience delivering multi-million-pound infrastructure frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a proactive and solutions-focused approach.
