About the Company


Are you an experienced governance professional ready to make a difference in global health (no previous sector experience needed). This is an opportunity to step into a strategic leadership role with the opportunity to influence process, best practice and strategy and to join an organisation which values purpose, innovation and collaboration. Our client is a pioneering medical research charity, based in London, and they have created a new Head of Governance role to provide direction and leadership to the growing governance function.


About the Role


Reporting to the GC & Company Secretary, this is an opportunity to shape governance strategy and enjoy operational responsibility for a growing, dynamic organisation.


Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, proactive support to the Board and Committees, working closely with senior stakeholders.
  • Lead and optimise governance processes.
  • Maintain and enhance governance policies, procedures, and practices in line with best practice.
  • Advise senior leaders on governance matters, including conflicts of interest and delegated authorities.
  • Contribute to cross-functional strategic projects involving governance, risk, or compliance.
  • Build close relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Trustees, Executive Leadership, legal advisors, and auditors.
  • Deliver governance training and updates to Trustees and staff.
  • Manage and develop a small team, fostering a culture of excellence.


Qualifications

  • 10 years+ experience supporting Boards and Committees in complex, high-quality organisations.
  • Chartered Governance Professional (CGI/ACIS UK & Ireland) or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong technical knowledge of relevant law, governance codes, and regulatory frameworks.


Required Skills

  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex information clearly and diplomatically.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and maintain confidentiality.


Pay range and compensation package

Base Salary – up to £120,000 plus benefits.
