Sub-editor, finance, equity research


This superb opportunity is at a European bank, based at its offices in The City. Working in an editing team of six, the successful candidate will play an important role within the team in editing and coordinating over 5,000 equity research reports a year.


The editing team works a mixture of shifts, typically 6am – 3pm, or 9.30am – 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. The bank offers hybrid working, 2-3 days a week in the office.


What the role entails

  • Editing equity research notes and commentaries produced by the bank’s team of analysts based in London, adhering at all times to established house style.
  • Final proofreading and preparation of research for timely publication online.
  • Close liaison with analysts, other editors and the design/formatting team on everyday workflow production issues and deadlines, including the compilation of a detailed daily handover note for the incoming shift of editors/formatters, as required.


Skills needed

  • A minimum of five years' sub-editing experience, working with finance content, preferably (but not necessarily) in the equity research department of an investment bank.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Excellent written English, an eye for detail and consistency, a strong grasp of grammar and syntax, and a clear sense of the importance of maintaining structure and style.
  • Ability to edit quickly and accurately to tight deadlines; ability to repair incorrectly formatted financial data in tables and charts.
  • A good understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, database applications and functions, and online publishing.
  • Ability to work independently but at the same time as part of a close-knit team of six editors and four designers.
