Toolmaker
Walsall - Up to £18ph
Dayshift: Monday–Thursday 08:00–17:00, Friday 08:00–13:00 (39 hours/week)
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Toolmaker to join a precision engineering team in Walsall. This hands-on role involves the manufacture, repair, maintenance, and continuous improvement of high-precision progression press tooling and associated machine components, ensuring alignment with engineering drawings, production targets, and customer expectations.
The successful candidate will play a key part in maintaining tool performance, supporting the introduction of new tooling, and sharing technical expertise across the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture, repair, and maintain progression press tools to tight tolerances, meeting production schedules and quality standards.
- Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM), including regrinding and sharpening tooling elements.
- Diagnose and resolve tooling issues during press operations to minimise downtime.
- Ensure all work complies with quality and regulatory standards, maintaining consistency and precision.
- Monitor tooling usage, log maintenance activity, and manage toolroom inventory levels.
- Safely operate and maintain lifting and handling equipment for tooling and press components.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on tooling reliability, performance, and cycle times.
Experience & Skills
- Proven experience in progression press tool manufacture and maintenance.
- Strong background in toolroom machining, including grinding, milling, and turning.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
- Solid understanding of material properties and heat treatment.
- Experience with EDM and CAD systems is desirable.
- Familiarity with 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
