Restructuring Associate in City of London

Buchanan Law is looking for an Restructuring Associate in City of London

Job description

Financial Restructuring Associate (4–6 PQE)

A leading international law firm is seeking a talented Financial Restructuring Associate (4–6 PQE) to join its dynamic and growing London team. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a lean, entrepreneurial group where you’ll work closely with highly respected partners on sophisticated and high-profile restructuring and finance matters.

The team is led by a senior practitioner with an exceptional pedigree in both private equity and restructuring, supported by seven other partners and six associates. As the practice continues to expand, they are looking to add mid-level and senior associates who can take on responsibility quickly and play an integral role in the team’s continued growth.

The Opportunity

This role offers exposure to complex cross-border financial restructurings and special situations transactions, working alongside top-tier clients including leading financial institutions, private equity sponsors, and corporates.

You’ll be part of a team that operates at the intersection of finance and restructuring, advising on matters such as:

  • Distressed and special situations financing
  • Leveraged finance transactions
  • Debt restructurings and refinancings
  • Corporate and capital structure reorganisations
  • Cross-border mandates involving multiple jurisdictions

This is not a pure restructuring role — a strong finance background is key. The team is open to candidates coming from a leveraged finance or general banking background who are keen to apply their transactional expertise in a restructuring context.

The firm is flexible on background and PQE but is particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

  • 4–6 years’ PQE (up to 7 considered) in finance, restructuring, or leveraged finance
  • Solid experience gained at a leading UK or international firm
  • The ability to take on significant responsibility and manage workstreams with confidence
  • A collaborative, proactive approach and strong communication skills
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in complex, cross-border finance structures

They’re especially keen to meet mid-senior level associates who can take ownership of matters and operate autonomously within a lean, partner-led team.

This firm offers the best of both worlds the drive and calibre of a US practice, combined with the independence and flexibility of a London-led operation. The team runs its own client relationships, giving associates the chance to work directly with clients, manage deals end-to-end, and develop business alongside senior lawyers.

You’ll benefit from:

  • Direct client access from day one
  • Genuine responsibility and autonomy in a lean, high-performing team
  • Close partner interaction and mentoring from market-leading practitioners
  • Exposure to international work and cross-border transactions
  • A culture that values entrepreneurship, collaboration, and initiative

Key Details

  • PQE: 4–6 (up to 7 considered)
  • Hours: 2,000 billable hours per year
  • Bonus: Discretionary, based on individual and firm performance
  • WFH: Minimum 3 days in office (typically 3–4)
  • Compensation: Highly competitive and commensurate with top-tier international firms

This is a rare opportunity to join a growing, entrepreneurial restructuring team within a global firm where you’ll gain hands-on experience, client exposure, and the ability to shape your career quickly.
