Buchanan Law is looking for an Corporate Tax Associate in London Area

Job description

Tax Associate / Senior Associate (1+ PQE)

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a talented Tax Associate or Senior Associate (1+ PQE) to join the London office of a leading international law firm. This is one of the firm’s most profitable and high-performing practice areas, and the team is now in an exciting phase of significant expansion.

The London Tax group currently includes around 7 partners and 20 associates, and the plan is to continue growing across all levels. The practice has a reputation for being technically excellent yet highly supportive — a place where associates receive first-rate training, gain exposure to varied and complex work, and are encouraged to develop into future leaders within the firm.

The Opportunity

This is a broad-based tax role covering a wide spectrum of matters, including corporate, finance, and funds tax. The group works seamlessly with other practice areas across the firm, giving associates the chance to collaborate on major transactions, cross-border investments, and innovative tax structuring projects.

The work is both challenging and diverse, with clients ranging from global corporates and financial institutions to investment funds and high-growth ventures. The practice offers an excellent balance of advisory and transactional work, ensuring that associates develop well-rounded experience in all key areas of international tax.

For junior lawyers, this is a fantastic place to build a deep foundation in tax law with a team that invests heavily in training and development. For senior associates, the firm offers a clear path to progression, a supportive leadership structure, and genuine opportunities to grow towards partnership.

The firm is open-minded and focused on quality — if you’re a strong tax lawyer, they’ll want to meet you. Specifically, they’re looking for:

  • 1+ years’ PQE in tax law (no upper limit; senior candidates and potential lateral hires are also encouraged to apply)
  • Experience in corporate, finance, or funds tax from a leading UK or international firm
  • Strong technical skills combined with a commercial, pragmatic approach
  • Excellent communication and client-handling skills
  • A team-oriented mindset and enthusiasm for developing both technically and professionally

This practice is known for its collegiate culture, broad work, and strong leadership. The partners are deeply committed to associate development and to creating a supportive environment where people thrive.

For junior lawyers, the team offers:

  • Unrivalled exposure to varied and complex tax matters across multiple sectors
  • A partner group that is heavily involved in training and mentoring
  • A strong emphasis on personal development and progression

For senior associates, the team provides:

  • The opportunity to take on greater client responsibility and team leadership roles
  • A clear route to partnership within a growing and strategically important practice
  • The backing of partners who actively champion internal progression

The group’s head is widely regarded as approachable, collaborative, and genuinely invested in his team’s success — someone who takes pride in building careers, not just completing deals.

Key Details

  • PQE: 1+ years (no upper limit)
  • Hours target: 1,800 billable hours per year
  • WFH policy: 50% from home (typically 2–3 days in the office)
  • Salary: Competitive; NQ benchmark at £150,000
  • Bonus: Structured and performance-based, with set awards for meeting targets
