Console Programmer
An established, independent game studio known for crafting creative management simulation games, is looking for an experienced Console Programmer to join its development team.
This role is hybrid (minimum three days per week in the studio) in Cambridge.
The Role
You’ll play a key part in delivering a polished experience for console players, developing platform functionality, ensuring certification compliance, and optimising performance and memory usage. Working mainly in C++ with the studio’s proprietary engine, you’ll collaborate closely with developers across engine, audio, UI, and online systems, as well as design and QA teams.
Responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact for console development queries.
- Develop and maintain platform-specific functionality.
- Profile and optimise memory usage and runtime performance.
- Coordinate with engine developers to improve console support.
- Mentor other programmers in console development best practices.
- Support game releases through build management and bug fixing.
Requirements
- Strong experience with modern C++ and understanding of game engine internals.
- Proven track record in shipping console titles.
- Skilled in profiling CPU performance and memory usage.
- Detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about delivering exceptional console experiences.
Bonus Points
- Familiarity with Xbox or PlayStation APIs.
- Experience with low-level graphics and GPU performance profiling.
- Background working with large or proprietary game engines.
