Our client is a well-established national law firm with a long-standing reputation for excellence in claimant litigation. The firm is widely recognised for its commitment to justice, compassion, and advocacy for vulnerable individuals.


The practice has a particularly strong presence in Abuse Law, where its lawyers have successfully represented survivors in landmark cases and institutional investigations. As part of its continued growth and investment in leadership, the firm is now seeking to appoint a Head of Abuse to lead this nationally respected department.


The Opportunity


This is a pivotal leadership role within a forward-thinking and values-led firm. The successful candidate will oversee a highly skilled team, set the strategic vision for the department, and play an integral role in shaping the firm’s wider litigation strategy.

The role offers the autonomy to innovate and grow the department while ensuring the delivery of exceptional client care and continued professional excellence.


Key Responsibilities


  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Abuse department.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of experienced fee earners and support staff.
  • Manage complex and sensitive cases involving institutional and individual abuse.
  • Build trusted relationships with survivor groups, charities, and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to business development, marketing, and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Drive performance, compliance, and quality across the department.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to deliver the firm’s broader commercial objectives.


About You


  • Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with extensive experience in abuse or serious injury litigation.
  • Proven track record of leading a team or department within a legal practice.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to deliver growth and innovation.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with emotional intelligence and empathy at the core.
  • Committed to justice, ethical practice, and client-centred service.
