Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Interim Damp and Mould Building Surveyor to join our team on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will play a key role in assessing, diagnosing, and managing damp and mould issues across our housing stock, ensuring properties meet health, safety, and compliance standards. This role is critical to safeguarding residents' wellbeing and maintaining the integrity of our buildings.

  • Duration: 6 Months
  • Hours: Full-time
  • Rate: Day Rate £350 - £375 a day DOE


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections of residential properties to identify damp, mould, and condensation issues.
  • Diagnose root causes (structural, environmental, or maintenance-related) and recommend appropriate remedial actions.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, including photographic evidence, risk assessments, and cost estimates.
  • Liaise with tenants, contractors, and internal teams to ensure clear communication and timely resolution of issues.
  • Oversee and monitor remedial works, ensuring compliance with building regulations, health and safety standards, and organisational policies.
  • Provide expert advice on preventative measures to reduce recurrence of damp and mould problems.
  • Support the organisation in meeting housing standards, regulatory requirements, and best practice guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to data analysis for long-term asset management planning.


Candidate Profile

  • Qualified Building Surveyor (degree or equivalent professional qualification).
  • Proven experience in diagnosing and managing damp and mould issues within residential or social housing settings.
  • Strong knowledge of building pathology, construction methods, and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, manage workload effectively, and deliver results within tight deadlines.
  • Strong report writing and IT skills (MS Office, housing asset management systems).
  • Commitment to health, safety, and safeguarding standards.
