CDM Principal Designer in Birmingham
The Annoying Recruiter is looking for an CDM Principal Designer in Birmingham
Job description
If you’ve outgrown any kind of micromanagement, but feel overlooked or overdue a promotion, then you need to work somewhere where your career will move at the same speed you do.
You might have reached that stage where you’re doing the work of someone more senior, but no one seems in a hurry to recognise it. It might be that you’re close to taking the step towards Senior and need someone to put some serious effort into developing you over 12 months.
Either way this role finally gives you the autonomy that matches your ability and within a year you’ll deliver projects independently, work with clients that trust you directly and be untethered to anyone standing over you.
And yes - the path to seniority is real here. Being the first person in the region puts you in pole position as the workload increases. The team supporting you is based across the country, so there’s always someone to lean on, but the day-to-day is yours, you’ll even have the opportunity to head up the region as it grows.
The progression milestones are clear:
● 3 months: understand the role and just provide support while you settle in.
● 6 months: independent delivery of high-quality work.
● 12 months: promotion, repeat business and early signs of regional growth around you.
● 24 months: First team member under your wing.
You’ll also have room to shape your longer-term career. Want to pivot into cost management one day? Project Management? Or building surveying? You’ll have that freedom and support to start doing it on the side while slowly moving over full time if that’s what you want.
And because this is with a high-trust, fast-growing consultancy, the benefits give you the lifestyle balance to actually enjoy the job:
● Three or four days a week WFH with flexible hours.
● 32 days Holiday
● Private healthcare for your whole family..
● A clear, visible promotion roadmap.
● Less admin - you just focus on delivery.
What You’ll Be Doing
● Acting as Principal Designer for clients across the southern region, guiding them through CDM 2015 clearly and confidently.
● Reviewing design information, highlighting risks, and preparing CDM documentation.
● Carrying out site visits, audits and compliance checks.
● Supporting or leading fire risk assessments depending on experience.
● Collaborating closely with the northern team while owning your local patch.
● Contributing to best practice as the workload increases.
What You’ll Need
● 3–5 years’ CDM experience or strong Fire Risk Assessor experience, with the usual basic qualifications.
● Confident, precise communication with clients and design teams.
● Organised and dependable.
● Comfortable working without micromanagement.
About the Company
