Job description

HR Business Partner – Employee Relations & TUPE (Senior Level)

We are seeking a Senior Employee Relations (ER) Business Partner to provide expert guidance across our organisation and play a pivotal role in upcoming growth programmes. This role offers a unique blend of responsibilities, split between supporting mergers and acquisitions (including TUPE transfers and contract harmonisation) and delivering high-quality ER support to our existing workforce.

While prior M&A experience is beneficial, deep and proven employee relations expertise is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations (50%)

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the HR Advisory Team on a wide range of complex ER matters.
  • Lead and support casework including disciplinary, grievance, performance, and capability issues.
  • Provide risk-based recommendations, ensuring consistent, fair, and legally compliant outcomes.
  • Coach and develop managers to build capability in handling people matters effectively.
  • Partner with Legal, HR Operations, and cross-functional teams to ensure aligned and consistent ER processes.
  • Analyse ER data and trends to identify risks, recommend proactive solutions, and strengthen organisational culture.

Mergers & Acquisitions / TUPE (50%)

  • Support the end-to-end TUPE process for incoming acquisitions.
  • Contribute to contract standardisation activities during the onboarding of newly acquired entities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure a smooth, compliant transition for affected employees.
  • Support consultation planning, due diligence, and integration activity.
  • Provide clear, pragmatic ER advice during organisational change.
  • Help build internal capability in handling TUPE and wider organisational transitions.

Experience & Capabilities

  • Extensive demonstrable experience in employee relations, including managing complex and high-risk cases.
  • Strong ability to interpret employment legislation and apply it in a pragmatic, commercially aware manner.
  • Able to balance operational detail with strategic thinking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with confidence advising and influencing senior leaders.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Experience in organisational change, restructuring, or M&A is advantageous but not essential.
  • Solutions-focused mindset, with sound judgement and the ability to work at pace.
