Principal Hardware Design Engineer | Electronics Team Leader | Embedded Systems


Location: Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK (Hybrid/Flexible)

This is more than a senior engineering role - you’ll own the design, development, and delivery of next-generation electronic products, mentor a high-performing team, and influence the company’s technology roadmap.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design of advanced electronic systems, including analogue & digital circuits, microcontrollers, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
  • Mentor, manage, and inspire a team of engineers, promoting innovation and technical excellence.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent projects, ensuring on-time, high-quality delivery within budget.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, mechanical, product) for seamless hardware integration.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to shape product strategy.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards, best practices, and processes.
  • Represent the team to senior management, clients, and external partners.


Success Metrics:

  • Delivery of innovative, high-performance products on schedule.
  • Development and retention of top engineering talent.
  • Clear communication of project progress, risks, and opportunities.
  • Adoption of cutting-edge technologies in products and processes.


Qualifications & Skills:

Essential:

  • Substantial experience in hardware design (analogue, digital, microcontrollers, PCB design).
  • Strong leadership experience; proven ability to lead high-performing teams.
  • Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience with simulation tools and embedded systems design.

Preferred:

  • Project management experience and cross-functional team coordination.
  • Experience integrating software and hardware systems.
  • Ambition to grow into senior technical leadership or management
