Principal Hardware Design Engineer | Electronics Team Leader | Embedded Systems
Location: Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK (Hybrid/Flexible)

This is more than a senior engineering role - you’ll own the design, development, and delivery of next-generation electronic products, mentor a high-performing team, and influence the company’s technology roadmap.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design of advanced electronic systems, including analogue & digital circuits, microcontrollers, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
- Mentor, manage, and inspire a team of engineers, promoting innovation and technical excellence.
- Oversee multiple concurrent projects, ensuring on-time, high-quality delivery within budget.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, mechanical, product) for seamless hardware integration.
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to shape product strategy.
- Establish and enforce engineering standards, best practices, and processes.
- Represent the team to senior management, clients, and external partners.
Success Metrics:
- Delivery of innovative, high-performance products on schedule.
- Development and retention of top engineering talent.
- Clear communication of project progress, risks, and opportunities.
- Adoption of cutting-edge technologies in products and processes.
Qualifications & Skills:
Essential:
- Substantial experience in hardware design (analogue, digital, microcontrollers, PCB design).
- Strong leadership experience; proven ability to lead high-performing teams.
- Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on experience with simulation tools and embedded systems design.
Preferred:
- Project management experience and cross-functional team coordination.
- Experience integrating software and hardware systems.
- Ambition to grow into senior technical leadership or management
