Senior Estimator / Designer – Ground Improvement

Location: Birchwood, Warrington

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Estimator/Designer to join our specialist team in the ground improvement and piling sector. This is a key role for a technically minded professional who combines design expertise with commercial acumen to deliver accurate, efficient, and innovative solutions on a range of geotechnical and foundation projects.

As part of a forward-thinking engineering contractor, you’ll work closely with clients, engineers, and project teams to prepare detailed estimates, develop technical designs, and contribute to winning and delivering complex projects across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of designs, tenders, and cost estimates for ground improvement and piling works.
  • Develop and optimise technical solutions using both traditional and innovative ground engineering techniques.
  • Collaborate with geotechnical engineers, project managers, and commercial teams to ensure design and estimate accuracy.
  • Interpret site investigation data, assess ground conditions, and propose suitable foundation or improvement methods.
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, and reports in accordance with industry standards.
  • Liaise with clients and consultants to develop project proposals and value-engineered solutions.
  • Support bid submissions, presentations, and tender negotiations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and estimators within the team.

About You

  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Extensive experience (typically 8+ years) in ground improvement, piling, or geotechnical design/estimation.
  • Proficient in geotechnical design software
  • Strong understanding of design standards
  • Excellent communication, commercial awareness, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Chartered (or working toward Chartered) status with ICE or equivalent is advantageous.
