Job description
Referment is supporting a well-established organisation within the engineering and construction services sector that is looking to hire a People Business Partner on a part-time, permanent basis. This role is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys being close to the operation, building strong relationships across support teams, and driving meaningful cultural and organisational impact.
This position is site-based near Canning Town, working 20 hours per week (ideally 5 mornings or 10:00–14:00). Some flexibility on the pattern of work can be discussed.
You’ll act as the primary HR partner for several central support functions (Finance, Legal, Procurement, Sustainability, MarComms and others). Your focus will be providing hands-on operational HR support while helping leaders shape workforce planning, performance, and culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational HR Partnership
- Serve as the main People point of contact for support function leadership.
- Support workforce forecasting, mobilisation/demobilisation, and organisational change.
- Employee Relations & Compliance
- Lead on complex ER cases: disciplinary, grievance, performance, and absence.
- Ensure compliance with UK employment law, H&S standards, and industry regulations.
- Provide clear guidance on ER best practice and collective agreements.
- Talent & Workforce Planning
- Work closely with internal resourcing teams to ensure timely hiring and onboarding.
- Support succession planning and capability development.
- Help drive retention initiatives for key roles.
- Performance, Culture & Values
- Champion a culture of safety, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
- Embed performance management processes across teams.
- Role model core organisational values.
- HR Data & Reporting
- Track and report key People metrics (headcount, attrition, absence, compliance).
- Use data insights to identify trends and recommend proactive solutions.
- CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent experience) preferred
- Degree qualified (ideal)
- Strong ER experience and confident advisory skills
- Comfortable working independently, on-site, and partnering directly with senior leaders
- Experience in engineering, construction, or industrial sectors is beneficial but not essential
