What is the role?
We are now looking to recruit a Commercial Trainee to join our Team. This role reports to the Commercial Manager.
The purpose of the role is to be responsible for supporting Quantity Surveyors and Buyers in their commercial duties and gain experience to develop into a Quantity Surveyor.
The role will include:
- Providing administrative support to help the team stay organised and on track with contracts.
- Reviewing and raising purchase orders for materials and site trades.
- Conducting site visits to assess quantity of work completed and raising simpler contractor payments
- Ensure weekly and monthly payments are processed efficiently, any disputed items are resolved, allowing site works to proceed unhindered and give an accurate picture of site financial status
- Support in producing site valuations on a bi-monthly basis and present to the Board of Directors. Find and assess any variation from budgeted figures.
- Undertake negotiations to obtain the optimum rates for sub-contract appointments and build / maintain relationships contractors.
- Utilise the Persimmon Group COINS system to set up new sites and establish budgets.
- Liaison with other departments to ensure sites run efficiently for example variations in Construction works, Sales extras, Customer Care issues and Accounting / payment queries.
- Develop to be responsible for multiple sites of varying complexity whilst setting up budgets, producing bi-monthly valuations, appointing subcontractors and making subcontractor payments to maintain close cost control and enable management decisions.
- Comply with responsibilities as defined in the Group’s Health, Safety & Environment Policy and ensure compliance with the same throughout the team to promote safety in the way we build projects
What experience, qualifications and skills are we looking for?
- Full UK driving license is advantageous
- High level of computer literacy and a desire to understand new software - IT experience would be advantageous.
- Fully conversant with Microsoft Office 365 Suite including Sharepoint, Excel and Word – an ability to learn and understand excel formulas and logic.
- Previous construction related experience within house building would be desirable.
- Understanding of HSE building regulations and legal guidelines
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
